Join Offload at Widnes Vikings

The next group of Offload fixtures will be returning to the DCBL Stadium from Tuesday 30th March, with 12 places up for grabs to join the group.

The usual two 45-minute sessions will run from 6:30pm until 8pm, as the programme returns at the end of the month for the latest set of fixtures.

Throughout the Coronavirus pandemic, members of the Widnes Vikings Offload Squad have joined Russell Treasure and Sean Mellor for live Zoom sessions, ensuring our squad members still had the opportunity to build their mental fitness.

Following the hugely successful online sessions, Offload returned to the DCBL Stadium before Christmas, with sessions taking place in Box 17 on the top floor of the South Stand.

Participants are required to wear face coverings, unless medically exempt, with social distancing in place to ensure the whole group remains safe during the sessions.

Sessions have been limited to six people due to social distancing rules, which is why there are now two sessions – the first running from 6pm-6:30pm followed by a second session at 7pm-7:45pm.

Those wanting to join the sessions will be required to email Sean Mellor on seanm@widnesvikings.co.uk in order to secure your place, and participants must only arrive at Main Reception five minutes before the relevant session starts.

Along with Halton Borough Council, the Vikings Sports Foundation have worked hard to ensure that Offload sessions can safely return to the Stadium.

Offload is a men’s mental fitness and wellbeing project run by RL Cares in partnership with State of Mind, along with the Vikings Sports Foundation.

These sessions help challenge how the sporting world tackles issues such as depression and anxiety, inviting participants to come behind the scenes of their home team and find out how players, coaches and referees stay mentally strong as well as physically fit.

Ultimately, Offload is aimed at improving the mental fitness of men within our local community, meaning that an interest in rugby league is not needed to attend.

Newcomers are always welcome to join to group, with a laidback and fun atmosphere welcoming those from all walks of life to share their experiences, develop coping strategies to challenge difficult situations and learn how to recognise when people close to them may need their support.

If you would like to join the Widnes Vikings Offload Squad, book your place on our FREE sessions at the DCBL Stadium on Tuesdays (restarting 5th January) from 6pm.
