As the NHS recently celebrated its 75th Birthday, a number of NHS heroes were asked to deliver the match ball ahead of Monday night’s victory against Bradford Bulls.
Born in 1948, the NHS was the first universal health system to be available to all, and now treats over a million people a day in England alone – an institution that we couldn’t be without.
As part of the club’s commitment to recognising and saying thanks to the NHS, our latest Community Champions, presenting the match ball to referee James Vella on behalf of the NHS, were Christina Carman, Kate Jacobs and Emma Holman.

Christina has worked in the NHS for 42 years, starting out at St Catherine’s Hospital in Birkenhead before moving to Arrowe Park Hospital, Withington Hospital and Whiston Hospital in later years. She currently works as a practice nurse at Beaconsfield surgery.
Kate qualified from Manchester university in 2005, starting out as a district nurse in Trafford before heading to Warrington. She now works alongside Christina at Beaconsfield Surgery in Widnes.
Emma has worked for the NHS for 17 years, and is currently at Peel House Medical Plaza as a practice nurse.

The delivery of the ball is part of a new initiative by the Vikings which will continue to happen at every home game to recognise outstanding contributions to the club and its community.
Prior to Monday, the most recent Community Champions – all individuals close to the club’s heart – were asked to deliver the match ball as the Vikings helped celebrate Disability Awareness Week prior to our recent home fixture against Swinton Lions.
