Match Report: Widnes Vikings 38-0 Workington Town

Widnes were runaway winners on the road as the Vikings beat Workington Town by 38 points to nil.

John Kear made three changes for his first 17 since taking the reigns as new head coach, with Luis Roberts coming in for his debut as well as the returns of Callum Field and Liam Bent in the places of injured pair Eribe Doro and Aaron Brown, with Joe Edge also missing out.

Widnes made a strong start to the game with a couple of sets on the Town line in the opening ten minutes, only errors keeping it all square.

The Vikings broke through on 14 minutes, Matty Fozard getting on the end of a Matty Smith grubber on the last to give us the lead.

Shortly after a penalty goal from Jack Owens, Sam Wilde landed for the Vikings on 29 minutes, Widnes scoring on another last-tackle play.

Just three minutes later the Vikings had another, Kenny Baker going under the sticks for our third of the day.

Matty Fozard had his second of the game shortly before the half-time hooter, finding another gap in the home line.

It was set for set for much of the second half, but Kieran Dixon found space to break in the corner with 12 minutes left on the clock to take Widnes to 30 with the help of a second touchline conversion from the captain.

Sam Wilde grabbed his second from the day with five minutes to go as Widnes rounded off the day at 38 points to nil.
