JAKE MAIZEN DEPARTS VIKINGS

Widnes Vikings can confirm that Jake Maizen has left the club.

Jake approached us to request a release from his contract in order to return home to Australia, which has been reluctantly accepted.

The club made every effort to support Jake during his time with the Vikings, and while we are disappointed to see him leave, we respect his decision and thank him for his efforts throughout his spell at Widnes Vikings.

On his departure, Maizen said: “Thank you to the board and the fans for welcoming me into such a great club. I have nothing but positive memories of my time at Widnes and wish the club success in the years to come.”

Head Coach, Allan Coleman commented: “We respect Jake’s decision, but naturally we’re very disappointed.

“I’ve been chasing him for a couple of years, and we tried so hard to get him in, so with the way it’s ended up, it’s obviously disappointing.

“That said, I wish him nothing but the best with his family and newborn baby. I totally understand his reasons for leaving, but obviously, when things get taken out of your hands, it’s frustrating to lose a player like Jake.”

Maizen joined the club mid-way through last season and went on to make nine appearances for the club, scoring five tries.

The club is actively seeking a replacement for Jake, and we are hoping to confirm a new signing in the coming weeks.

Everyone at Widnes Vikings wishes Jake all the very best for the future.
