Widnes Vikings head coach John Kear says there is a real sense of disappointment following Saturday’s defeat to Toulouse Olympique.
Against one of the sides heavily tipped to be fighting for promotion, the Vikings more than held their own and came within a few minutes of a hard-fought victory.
However, a late Paul Marcon try, while the Vikings were down a man following Danny Craven’s sin-binning, saw the visitors edge the contest 14-12.

“We’re very disappointed, and we’re very emotional at this point in time because we feel as if we found a way to lose the game rather than that they’ve won it,” Kear said post-match.
“We’ve lost three times this season – once we’ve been whacked, which is fair enough, they [Sheffield] were the better team.
“Twice, I think we’ve contributed to our own downfall, and that’s the case again today.”
Defeat was the Vikings’ first at home this season, with two league wins and a cup victory coming prior to Saturday’s gut-wrenching result at the DCBL Stadium.
“I think it’s a more disappointing feeling because it’s on our own ground,” he added.
“We wanted to make this a really difficult place to come, in order for us to achieve success.

“There’s about six or seven things that you can point to that have been really vital towards the scoreline.”
On the overall performance, Kear said: “Some players really put their hand up and played really well. Some let themselves down, there’s no doubt about that.
“We will reflect upon that, and we’ll have an honest meeting on Monday. But obviously, it’s so disappointing at this moment in time.”
