Golden Generation deliver match ball in new initiative

Members of the club’s Golden Generation group delivered the match ball ahead of our 23-14 victory over Barrow Raiders on Sunday afternoon.

Margaret Pheysey, Pamela Hall, Albert Hunt and Dennis Thomas were welcomed onto the DCBL Stadium pitch moments before kick-off to deliver the ball to referee Scott Mikalauskas.

The delivery of the ball was part of a new initiative by the Vikings which will happen at every home game to recognise outstanding contributions to the club and its community.

Golden Generation was founded in August 2013. It was set up to get fans to initially come together and speak about memories of the game and personal experiences with the Vikings.

It is now a thriving group that meets every Friday at the DCBL Stadium.

The group, which first started as a social setup, has now grown into a fully supportive branch of the club and foundation, and provides our older fans the opportunity to meet regularly, make friendships and remove any elements of loneliness.

Golden Generation supports the club in a number of ways, and items purchased by the Vikings include:

  • Sports Equipment – wrestling mats/prowler/battle ropes
  • Media Equipment – GoPros/camera equipment/computer software
  • Player sponsorship
  • Primary school season tickets

This all comes to the sum of several thousand pounds, and we are thankful for their ongoing support.

Golden Generation are always looking for new members. If you would like to learn more about the group, please contact Cheryl, our head of foundation, for more information. Email: cherylm@widnesvikings.co.uk.
