GMB Renew as 2020 Principle Training Range Partner

Over the course of the coming weeks, we will be showcasing all 2020 Kit and Training Range Sponsors, and today we are delighted to announce GMB Trade Union have renewed their sponsorship with the club as Principle Training Range Partners for the 2020 season.

GMB are one of the UK’s largest trade unions, with over 600,000 members. They work in both the public and private sector, across every section of the economy, including retail, security, manufacturing, distribution, utilities, local government and the NHS.

As well as campaigning on behalf of working people and their communities, GMB represent their members in workplace issues, negotiating terms and conditions, improving health and safety and also representing members when they have grievance or disciplinary matters.

GMB also support members with legal matters, if one of their members have an accident or they are injured as a result of their employer’s negligence.

GMB union’s brand is proudly displayed on all of the club’s 2019 Training Range, a deal they have renewed for the 2020 season to remain as Principle Partners. GMB also provided training kit for the club’s Learning Disability Super League squad, who are currently competing in festivals across the country.

Their relationship with rugby league extends to all clubs currently playing in the professional leagues, as the Rugby League Professional Player’s Association is part of the GMB Sporting Section. They provide support on player welfare, support players in legal matters regarding contracts and also work with current and past players on their plans for life after rugby league.

Terry Mellor, Senior Organiser at GMB, commented: “We’re very proud of the association with the Vikings, not just because of the on-field activity. What attracted us really was the stuff that the Vikings do off field, working with schools, amateur clubs, partners and the community in general.

“The Values that the club has of inclusion, equality and fairness, and more recently we were very happy to get involved in supporting the Learning Disability Rugby League team. The fact that it is promoting the enjoyment and inclusive element of the game makes it a fantastic advert for rugby league. It was a bonus for us to get involved with something like that.

“The principles and values of the club attracted us, because it is the very kind of thing that we get involved in, it is not just about representing members it is about representing them in their community and we do a lot of that kind of work.”

Dave Rolt, Widnes Vikings Head of Commercial, added: “On behalf of the club I would like to thank GMB Trade Union for renewing their Principle Training Range Partnership for 2020, after successfully working together throughout the 2019 season.

“They are a huge national brand that has an incredible reach across the whole of the country, and their dedication to providing the best possible support for their members is evident in all that they do.

“Widnes Vikings are delighted to continue our association with GMB, and hope that this is the continuation of a lengthy and prosperous partnership.”
