Widnes Vikings can confirm that Andrew Horabin has stepped down from his role on the club’s board with immediate effect.
Andrew joined the board eleven months ago, in May 2025, after being a long-time and passionate supporter of the club.
During his time with the Vikings, Andrew has been a committed figure, dedicating significant time and energy to helping move the club forward both on and off the field. He also played a key role in the launch of the club’s Business Club initiative.
However, following careful consideration, Andrew has decided to step away due to the ongoing restrictions and regulatory framework imposed by the Rugby Football League (RFL), which he feels significantly limit the club’s ability to strengthen the squad, improve team performance, and provide additional support and opportunities for players.
Andrew believes that, under the current constraints, it has become increasingly difficult to deliver the level of ambition and competitive progress that he believes the club and its supporters deserve.
Speaking on his decision, Andrew said: “Widnes Vikings is a club that means a great deal to me and to so many people in the town. I am incredibly proud of the efforts of the players, staff and supporters.
“Unfortunately, the current restrictions placed on the club, along with the sustainable budgeting policies, make it extremely challenging to invest in ways that would help improve performances and create better opportunities for the playing group. After much thought, I feel it is the right time for me to step aside.”
The club would like to place on record its sincere thanks to Andrew for his commitment, passion and contribution to Widnes Vikings during his time involved with the organisation.
Widnes Vikings remains focused on building a sustainable future for the club, and will continue working with all stakeholders to ensure the team can compete strongly while maintaining long-term stability.
