Widnes Vikings would like to send our condolences to the family and friends to Bill Thompson, who has sadly passed away.
Bill was a player for the club between 1956/57 and 1964/65, operating mainly in the centres, going on to make 237 appearances for the club, scoring an impressive 110 tries.
His debut for Widnes came against Barrow in 1957, and his final appearances coming 9 seasons later against Hunslet in October 1964.
During his time at Naughton Park, Bill would also be part of the side that won the Challenge Cup in 1964, beating Hull Kingston Rovers at Wembley to end the club’s 27-year wait for the trophy. Bill played on the wing for the club, forming a centre-wing partnership with Frank Myler.
The thoughts of everyone at Widnes Vikings are with the Thompson family at this difficult time.
