ERIC HUGHES TO BE INDUCTED INTO WIDNES HALL OF FAME

Widnes Vikings are proud to announce that Eric Hughes is the fourth inductee into the club’s Hall of Fame, as part of our ongoing celebration of the legendary figures who shaped our greatest era.

Hughes will be officially inducted at the 1975 Challenge Cup 50th Anniversary Celebration, taking place on Friday, 11th July in the Bridge Suite at the DCBL Stadium, and will be in attendance on the night.

A name synonymous with consistency, flair, and try-scoring brilliance, Hughes made a remarkable 481 appearances for Widnes, the third most in club history, and scored an outstanding 199 tries, making him second on the all-time try scorers list.

In total, he amassed 607 points across a glittering career in black and white, cementing his place as one of the most decorated and admired players to ever wear the jersey.

His honours include:
  • 🏆 Challenge Cup Winner – 1975, 1979, 1981, 1984

  • 🏆 Rugby League First Division Champion – 1977/78

  • 🏆 Premiership Winner – 1982, 1983

  • 🏆 Lancashire Cup Winner – 1974, 1975, 1978, 1979

  • 🏆 John Player Trophy Winner – 1976, 1979

  • 🏆 BBC2 Floodlit Trophy Winner – 1978

Hughes was a consistent and dynamic presence through multiple title-winning sides and played a key role in many of the club’s most iconic triumphs.

His induction into the Hall of Fame is a fitting tribute to a player whose longevity, class, and contributions helped define the Vikings’ most successful era.
