MAL ASPEY TO BE INDUCTED INTO WIDNES HALL OF FAME

Widnes Vikings are pleased to announce that Mal Aspey will be the second inductee into the club’s Hall of Fame, recognised for his incredible achievements and lasting impact during one of the most successful eras in the club’s history.

Aspey will be officially inducted at the 1975 Challenge Cup 50th Anniversary Celebration, taking place on Friday 11th July in the Bridge Suite at the DCBL Stadium, and will be in attendance on the night.

A true Widnes great, Mal Aspey is the club’s all-time leading try scorer, with an outstanding 236 tries to his name. He also ranks second in all-time appearances, with an incredible 575 games played in black and white.

In total, he amassed 958 points, adding 125 goals to his prolific try tally over a storied career that spanned more than a decade at the top level.

His honours include:
  • 🏆 Challenge Cup Winner – 1975, 1979
  • 🏆 Rugby League First Division Champion – 1977/78
  • 🏆 Premiership Winner – 1980
  • 🏆 Lancashire Cup Winner – 1974, 1975, 1976, 1978, 1979
  • 🏆 John Player Trophy Winner – 1976, 1979
  • 🏆 BBC2 Floodlit Trophy Winner – 1978

 

A powerful, dynamic, and consistent presence on the field, Aspey’s place in the Hall of Fame is a fitting tribute to a player whose name is etched into the very fabric of Widnes Vikings’ proud history.
