Widnes Vikings #CareWithHair To Support Local Charity In Battle Against Coronavirus

Widnes Vikings are showing their support for Community Integrated Care in the battle against Coronavirus and are encouraging supporters to join them, by taking part in the #CareWithHairChallenge.

Community Integrated Care was founded in Widnes 32 years ago and today supports and employs hundreds of people across Halton, and beyond. The charity has been long term partners of the club, creating many projects with the club to benefit local people – including the Chemics Café dementia project and Learning Disability Super League.

With the charity on the frontlines of the current Coronavirus crisis, supporting thousands of people who could be vulnerable to the impact of the virus, we want to show it our full support. You can too, by taking part in the #CareWithHair challenge!

As lockdown makes Britain a nation of DIY hairstylists, the #CareWithHair challenge encourages people to donate the money they would have spent at the barbers or salon at www.carewithhair.co.uk, to change the lives of people at the frontlines of this crisis.

A number of Vikings stars have volunteered support the appeal, including Danny Craven and Ted & James Chapelhow.

This appeal will fund a range of vital resources to help the 4000 people that the charity cares for cope with the many challenges of self-isolation, including activity packs, calming sensory equipment and technology to stay in touch with loved ones. The charity is also hoping to create ‘comfort kits’, to support the wellbeing of their 6500 strong workforce who are working tirelessly at this testing time.

This fundraising comes at an important moment for the charity, which has already invested more than £2 million in protecting the health of its people and responding to the challenges of COVID-19.

Phil Finney, CEO of Widnes Vikings, says: “Community Integrated Care has shown great support for Widnes Vikings in the past, including as we entered administration. They have developed many really important programmes with the club that change the lives of local people. Having partnered with the charity for many years, and even having staff members who work for the charity, we understand how important it is to support the charity, its staff and the people they care for at this difficult time. On behalf of the club, I’d like to thank every supporter who backs this cause.”

John Hughes, Director of Partnerships and Communities at Community Integrated Care, says: “Our charity supports many people in society who are the most susceptible to the impact of COVID-19. Self-isolation has had a significant impact on the wellbeing of the people we support. For our care workers, this is also a very emotionally and physically demanding time too.

“Whether you’re cropping with clippers, fixing your fringe or daring to dye, every penny raised from the #CareWithHair campaign will support the wellbeing of these everyday heroes, as well as the people in our care, at what may be the most testing time of their lives.

“The support of our friends at Widnes Vikings is invaluable and we hope that supporters also give this appeal their backing too. Your donation will change the lives of thousands of people and make a big difference to this incredible charity during the biggest health crisis of a generation.”
