Simon Fox, Foundation Director said: “We have over 250 boys, 26 coaches from 12 teams involved in the programme and the way every single community club and volunteer has worked together to get to this point has been simply remarkable.
“Having local players wearing the famous black and white with the ultimate aim of representing Widnes in Super League is what this is about.
“Sunday is the start of that journey and we’re delighted to host Oldham RLFC Development Team at the DCBL stadium.”
Joe Warburton, Head of Pathways Oldham RLFC said: “After years of Oldham being in the shadows and not having a representative team from Oldham playing the likes of Widnes, Wigan, Bradford and Leeds it was sad to see talented Oldham players being picked up by other teams.
“It’s great to be back in this esteemed company and seeing the Oldham lads playing in the famous Oldham jersey, at grounds like this where so many greats have grazed this turf.”
12 different community clubs will be represented across the three Vikings development teams.
