Widnes Vikings are delighted to confirm that our final home game of the season against Toulouse Olympique will be celebrated as our Inclusion Round.
We are delighted to welcome Colostomy UK and Team Colostomy to the DCBL Stadium where we will host two fixtures to raise awareness of stoma care and inclusive rugby league.
First will be Chorley Panthers v Team Colostomy in a game of Physical Disability Rugby League at 4pm, before a Vikings inclusion touch rugby team takes on Team Colostomy in a game at halftime in our clash with Toulouse.
Team Colostomy is the Rugby League team of Colostomy UK. This National charity exists to make a positive difference for anyone impacted by any kind of stoma or stoma surgery.
It is estimated over 200,000 people in the UK are currently living with a stoma, that’s 1 in 335 people.
Individuals of all ages can have a stoma, and there are several reasons why people can need one including bowel and bladder cancer, diverticulitis, Crohn’s disease or Colitis, or following a trauma to the abdomen.
Giovanni Cinque of Colostomy UK said: “Team Colostomy UK exists to empower people with stomas to get back to doing the things that they thought they never might be able to do again, like playing Rugby League.
“To challenge and change the perceptions that some in society have that stomas are life-limiting, when in fact they are life enabling.
“We’re really excited to be playing at the DCBL stadium because it’s a great reward for our players to play on a pitch that has been graced by some greats of our game like Jonathan Davies, Martin Offiah, and Andy Gregory.
“Through the reach of Widnes Vikings on matchdays and beyond, we can continue to raise awareness of stomas and what people living with them can achieve.”
