Widnes Vikings are saddened to learn of the death of former player Wally Hurstfield, aged 89.
Wally spent 11 seasons at Widnes and was a starting prop for in the 1964 Challenge Cup Final victory over Hull KR. Wally also played in the combined Widnes-Liverpool City team in 1961 against the New Zealand tourists.
Wally made his debut against Blackpool Borough in April 1956 and went on to make a total of 210 appearances for the Chemics.
During that time, he scored 9 tries, with his final appearance coming against St.Helens in 1967.
The club sends its deepest condolences to Wally’s family and friends during this difficult time.
