On Thursday 3rd and Friday 4th June, Widnes Vikings welcomed 80 children to the DCBL Stadium for two FREE rugby camps with First Team stars Jack Owens, Matty Smith and Danny Craven.
The half-day camps ranged from under 10s to under 13s, with all of those wishing to attend having to be registered with one of the borough’s local community teams.
Within less than 24 hours of the release of the pilot initiative, both days were fully booked with all 80 places being snapped up.
After a successful two days at our camps, our Emris Services Magic Moment for this week was seeing the smiles on the faces of all of those in attendance as they had the chance to learn from some of their heroes, while keeping active during the half-term.
These smiles and the enjoyment of the children at the camp was brilliantly captured by our club photographer, RL Pix, with a full gallery of both days now available on our Facebook page via the button below.
Across both days, children enjoyed some warm up games of football, dodgeball and tick and pass before learning a number of skills from the Vikings First Team players in attendance. These game specific drills taught the children how to adapt to certain situations, as well as teaching some wrestling techniques.
Both mornings ended with each team taking on one and other in a tournament before each Vikings player picked their best trainer of the day to receive a free Widnes Third Shirt.
We would like to thank everyone who joined us for both days at the camp, and we look forward to delivering similar initiatives in the coming months which will give youngsters in our local community the chance to access brilliant opportunities.
