Widnes Vikings are delighted to announce that Jack Owens has been named as the Club Captain ahead of the 2021 Betfred Championship season.
Jack retains the captaincy after being handed the honour last season, before the campaign was ended prematurely due to the cancellation of the 2020 season.
Owens, the first homegrown captain of the club since 2006, has progressed through every stage of the club’s pathway, gaining international honours with England Academy and making his debut for the club at the age of 16.
Born in Ditton, the fullback has featured 103 times for his hometown club, scoring 52 tries, kicking 256 goal and scoring 720 points.
He is currently the 11th highest point scorer in the club’s history, and five points will see him climb into the top 10.
Jack Owens commented, “Being able to lead my hometown club as captain is one of the biggest honours possible, so to get the chance to do it again in 2021 means a lot to me.
“Last year obviously didn’t go the way that anyone would have wanted it to, but we’re excited to get back out there this weekend and then eventually in front of the supporters.
“Like I said last year, playing for this club is something I have always wanted to do growing up, so I’m incredibly proud to have been named captain of the club I have always supported.”
