Widnes Vikings are proud to announce the launch of a new initiative aimed at keeping children in our community healthy and active during the current lockdown.
‘Fitness with the Vikings’ will officially launch on Monday 15th February, giving children and young people access to a free physical activity programme, which will encourage them to lead a healthier and more active lifestyle.
Each week, members of the Widnes Vikings First Team will be working alongside our staff to put together three sessions, which will be broadcast on our social media channels and website.
The sessions will consist of physical exercises, rugby league skills and challenges set by our players, all which can be performed at home with no equipment necessary, only standard and easy to find household items.
Our aim for this initiative is to provide an opportunity for all school children to interact with this programme from our local community, ensuring that they have the tools to stay active and have social interaction during this difficult period.
All primary schools within the borough will be contacted this week in the build-up to our official launch, with our resources also offered freely so that children still attending school do not miss out.
As the only professional sports club in the borough of Halton, Widnes Vikings feel it is our responsibility to inspire young children to adopt healthy lifestyles, which is the driving force behind the launch of this initiative.
With the pandemic and lockdown making it increasingly difficult to maintain physical activity and participation in sport, Fitness with the Vikings will ensure that children in our community can stay active as well as having the opportunity to compete for their school.
We want as many children as possible to join us for Fitness with the Vikings, so we will be encouraging everyone who takes part to send in their videos and pictures while taking part in the sessions, and these will be used on our social media channels and future sessions.
If you would like any further information on this initiative, please contact us on enquiries@widnesvikings.co.uk. We will be releasing more information through the week, which will include the timings of our first three sessions and how you can access them.
