Following on from recent matches, Widnes Vikings and Halton Council can confirm that for the Good Friday game on 29 March against Swinton Lions (kick off 2pm), Blocks A-D will be open in the North Stand.
As previously publicised, both parties have been working together to create a better atmosphere at home games. We also need to keep costs down as much as possible so that our games can remain affordable to our loyal fans.
Following on from that, and in direct response to some of the issues raised by fans following the league opener against Barrow, the North West corner will be open for the next match, together with the adjacent three blocks.
The club have been actively engaging with fans who go in that part of the ground, to help to create a loud and noisy atmosphere, to get behind the team. In doing so, the club have purchased a drum to be used in that section and fans are being encouraged to bring appropriately fireproofed flags and banners, which can be stored at the stadium.
Halton Council, as part of the positive relationship with the Vikings, have worked hard with the club to ensure that fans will still have good access to food and drink concessions for the fixture, with a series of new, pop up stations being put in place so that fans will not be inconvenienced with the distance to purchase items. The central bar and toilets will not be open.
Head of Operations Chris Hamilton said: “We have listened to fans’ feedback after the Barrow game and this new layout is as a direct consequence to that. We want to get as many fans to the DCBL , to create the best atmosphere we can, to get behind the team, as we strive to build on the great start we had against Barrow.
“We hope that fans will appreciate the strength of the partnership between ourselves and the council and this is demonstrated by the efforts the council have made to make this work. Fans will have easy access via turnstiles NW1 & NW2 at the North West corner of the stadium and then there will be food and drink concessions in the immediate vicinity so that everything is at hand for fans in the North Stand.
“The blocks open in the North Stand will provide 1500 seats for people and we want everybody to get behind Allan and the lads this Friday.
“The club is really appreciative of the help we have had from the council in addressing this and it is another sign of the partnership we have with them.
“We hope to see lots of you down at the DCBL this Friday, both in the DCBL Longhouse and then in the stadium as we strive for another 2 competition points.”
