A pupil of Saddleworth School Oldham-born Josh played his junior Rugby with the Waterhead club, prior to joining Huddersfield Giants at the age of 15 where he progressed from Scholarship to Super League. Following a spell with Brisbane club Redcliffe Dolphins Josh returned to the UK to help Hull KR achieve promotion to the top flight later moving on to Salford from where he joined the Vikings, also bringing considerable experience of the Championship through his various loans. Citing his grandfather Kenneth Payne, the former Oldham, Rochdale and Blackpool Prop Forward, as the biggest influence on his career ‘JJ’ names his career highlight to date as his Super League debut for Huddersfield aged 19, while his ambition is to earn a regular place with the Vikings and lead the club back to the top Division. Away from rugby the former England Academy representative enjoys socialising with friends and family while having an interest in most sports, especially Boxing and Football, supporting Manchester United. While concentrating on his rugby Josh is also seeking to become a qualified electrician.
