Declan attended Cardinal Newman and St Gregory’s High Schools in his home town of Warrington where at the age of five he began playing rugby with the Woolston Rovers and Latchford clubs. Having represented the Warrington Town boys team he progressed through the Wolves’ Scholarship and Academy structure to make his Super League debut in an 80-0 win against Wakefield. In addition to representing Warrington, Salford, Swinton and Featherstone the Lancashire county representative has also had loan spells with Widnes, North Wales Crusaders and Rochdale. He credits Lee Briers as being the biggest influence on his career and names his appearances for England Knights against Papua New Guinea in 2018 as a career highlight, along with his Challenge Cup Final success in 2019 and Super League Grand Final appearances in 2016 and 2018 with Warrington. Declan’s ambition is to see Widnes back in Super League while away from rugby he is a keen Manchester United fan.
