Connor joined home-town club St Helens Scholarship programme and progressed through the Academy system having an outstanding season in 2013 returning 16 tries from his 23 appearances. He played his junior rugby with Portico Panthers, where he was coached by his father, Saints legend Bernard Dwyer who, along with John Duffy, he names as the major influences on his revitalised career. He names the successful run to the League One play-offs with Swinton in 2015 as the highlight of his career to date. At the end of 2017 Connor opted to leave the professional game and linked up with Thatto Heath Crusaders from where he gained selection for the Community Lions tour of New Zealand in October 2019, appearing in all three games and scoring 2 tries.
