It’s now back to back wins and three games undefeated as the Vikings beat Hull FC in a game in which the score line doesn’t reflect the dominance of the home team.

It all started off badly for the Vikings when they allowed the kick off to find touch and Hull FC wasted no time in crossing the whitewash for an early try from Natalia Romano.

From then on however, it was Widnes who dominated territory and eventually their pressure told and it was Olivia Miah who scored wide out.

Hull, via Romana and full back Leanne Baggley, tried to drive their team forward but errors prevented them getting anywhere near the Widnes line. Despite the home team looking the most likely to score they failed to turn their pressure into points and at half time it remained all-square.

Strong running from Jazz Mason, Casey Naylor and Nicholette Postlethwaite continued to give the Vikings good field position but they just couldn’t get over the over the line despite close efforts from Amy Bennett and Postlethwaite.

The important score finally came from Rachael Porter who went over for the Vikings third try and Aimee Cleaver added the conversion.

Both teams found themselves down to 12 players in an incident which saw Vikings prop Postlethwaite sin binned and with a few minutes left Hull reduced the arrears with what proved to be a consolation try from Jade Key.
