A great attacking display saw our Under 19s score nine tries and register back to back wins with a 50-22 victory over Bradford Bulls.

A good opening set of six forced a Bradford goal line drop out and Widnes registered the first score when Jordan Brown just managed to hold onto the ball to go over.  Joe Edge added the extras.

It didn’t take long before they struck again and this time it was Ollie Brookes who crossed the line to make it 10-0 after only six minutes.

Widnes were dominating play and a certain try for Joe Edge was only denied by a forward pass. However, it was soon 22 points in as many minutes when first Josh Wilde showed great strength to shake off three tacklers to score.

Then Jayden Hatton plucked a high kick out of the air to touch down, and Joe Edge converted both efforts to give Widnes a comfortable lead.

Widnes had other opportunities to score but when Bradford got into the Widnes 20 metre area for the first time, they posted points. Swift passing put Murphy Smith over at the corner. Matthew Race converted from the touchline. Bradford were encouraged by this and looked to have scored again but a foot in touch denied Daniel McGrath.

HALF TIME: Widnes Vikings 22-6 Bradford Bulls

Having held a similar lead the week before, and letting it slip, Widnes will have been aware that it couldn’t happen again and they started the second half in great style.

Ben Davies and Jayden Hatton combined brilliantly and it was centre Hatton who went in under the posts. Then Josh Wilde surged onto the ball to force his way over and Edge’s two conversions made it 34-6.

Any thoughts that the game may be done and dusted were soon dismissed when Ebon Scurr scored and when Kieran Brining grabbed another, with Race converting both, it was 34-18 and Bradford suddenly thought they could mount a fightback.

Only great defence kept them from scoring another but then Widnes moved upfield and Hatton’s pass put Edge away. His pass inside found Daniel Hill and the full back scored his side’s seventh try.

He soon scored another when Ben Davies showed great skill to open up the Bradford defence to put him in.  Edge converted one of the tries, and with 15 minutes left, the game was won.

Bradford refused to lie down and Will Adams scored their fourth try but they were not to have the last say as Ciaran O’Donnell dived over from the play the ball. Joe Edge’s seventh successful kick saw the half century of points reached and seal a very impressive victory.
