Widnes Vikings can confirm that following yesterday’s victory over Bradford Bulls, the club have granted permission for Anthony Gelling to return home for two weeks.

Anthony, who has a wife and two children on the other side of the world, has headed back Down Under to be with his young family, helping them to prepare things ahead of their impending move to the United Kingdom.

Anthony and his wife welcomed his daughter, Manaia, into the world in late December. After spending just a couple of weeks with his family and newly-born daughter, he returned to Widnes for the club's pre-season ahead of the Betfred Championship campaign.

Gelling, who boasts 5 tries in 6 games in 2019, has made an instant impact at the Vikings this season. He has formed a lethal combination with Ryan Ince, who has 8 tries himself already, on the club’s right edge.

The ex-Wigan and New Zealand Warriors centre has applied himself superbly, both on and off the field, since his arrival at the club and will look to continue that fine form upon his return.

Anthony will miss the Vikings’ fixtures against Rochdale Hornets in the Betfred Championship and Oldham RLFC in the Challenge Cup.

The club look forward to welcoming Anthony Gelling back to the club ahead of the Batley Bulldogs fixture on Sunday 7th April.
