Brian O’Connor, Widnes Vikings Marketing Director, has confirmed that he will leave the Club at the end of January, having given over ten years of service to the organisation.

Brian O’Connor commented, “It is with an extremely heavy heart that I have decided to step down from my operational role within the Widnes Vikings.

"I am immensely proud of what we have achieved as a club in the last eleven years. We started at Ground Zero, and yet we turned what was no more than a dream into a Super League commodity, that beat every team in the competition home and away!

"Sometimes, we were outstanding, sometimes we were massively frustrating! A lot of times we have faced adversity and sometimes we overcame it - but whatever we felt, whether happy or frustrated, angry or emphatic - we got to watch our home town team, playing competitive top flight Rugby League.

"I have been a passionate supporter of this great club from the age of six years old and throughout my tenure at the Vikings, I have not only formed lifelong friendships with supporters, staff and players, but I have been privileged enough to form relationships with many of my own childhood heroes!

"I would like to personally thank all of our staff at the Vikings, and in particular the Marketing, Retail, Ticketing and Membership staff who have worked so hard over the years to drive us forward. This is such a small team but they genuinely give everything they have to give us the best chance of being successful.

"The fact that we continue to deliver so many really strong campaigns, working with a minimal budget is an absolute credit to these individuals and I thank each and every one of them for their hard work, dedication and total commitment to the our club.

"I am extremely sad to be leaving my role at the Vikings but I truly feel that it is the right decision, both personally and for the future direction of the Club. I have given my assurances that I will remain on hand until the end of January to ensure that all aspects of Membership and season preparation are fulfilled.

"Cut me through the middle and I am black & white (with a touch of red!) but I feel that at this time of restructuring I would like to ensure the cleanest possible exit from my tenure to ensure that no extra costs limit any future activation budget.

"As much as I am sad to leave my position within this fantastic club, I also know that my commitment has at times left me little time to appreciate my own family. I leave, highly excited to not only to start a new chapter, but to just be Dad again!

"Finally, I would like to thank all the supporters who have followed this club through thick and thin. Widnes Vikings simply wouldn’t exist without you!”

James Rule, Widnes Vikings CEO commented, “Brian O’Connor is a lifelong Widnes supporter. The passion that he developed watching the Club from the terraces he consistently brings to his role as Marketing Director.

"He truly cares about this club and during his tenure he has been a champion of innovation particularly with regard to the Stronghold Membership and our retail operation. His work and indeed him personally were both shortlisted for awards at the last Super League awards ceremony which is testimony to his abilities.

"It’s been a pleasure to work alongside him and on behalf of everyone at the Club I thank him for all he has done and wish him and his Family the very best of luck for the future”.
