Widnes Vikings are delighted to announce that Owen Farnworth has committed his future to the club, putting pen-to-paper on a three year deal.

Farnworth made his debut for the Vikings in the 2017 season, starting against Leeds Rhinos at loose-forward on Easter Monday, whilst also making his home debut in 2018 against Hull FC.

The forward, 19, has been selected in England squads at every stage of the international youth pathway. He proudly played his community rugby league with Chorley Panthers, before linking up with the Vikings.

Owen has made a handful of appearances in the first team squad in 2018, and will be looking to build on that and stake a claim for a regular place in the side in the Betfred Championship.

Owen Farnworth, says: “It feels good to have the deal done and signed,”

“I’ve been here for five years now, and I love the place. It’s good for my career to be here so I’m happy to be staying.

“I’ve played with all the young lads that have signed already for the last few years, and we’ve done good things. So, I’m hoping that we can continue doing that moving forward into next year.

“For myself personally, hopefully I can get in that squad every week, show what I can do and give my all for the club in 2019.”

Phil Finney, Head of Youth at Widnes Vikings, says: “Retaining Owen Farnworth is of huge significance to the club. After joining as a fourteen year old from Chorley Panthers, Owen has made a tremendous contribution to the Academy programme and is one of the most exciting prospects in the game.

“Owen has represented his country at every age possible and at the age of nineteen, has already represented the first team a number of times at prop, arguably the hardest position for a young player to progress.

“Owen has demonstrated his commitment to the club on a number of occasions, and has reinforced his commitment once again by pledging his future to the club at a difficult time.”

Owen is proudly sponsored by Widnes Metal Recycling.
