Widnes Vikings outside back, Lloyd Roby, has committed his future to the club after signing a new deal for 2019.

Lloyd, 19, made his first team debut for the Vikings in 2017, playing on the wing in the club’s Challenge Cup defeat against Warrington Wolves.

Roby joined the club at the age of 14, and has represented at every stage of the Vikings pathway after joining from Rylands Sharks. Lloyd also represented Crosfield ARLFC during his community rugby league days.

Lloyd Roby says: “When Phil (Finney) came to me, it was a no brainer to sign. I was over the moon to see that the club value me enough to say ‘we want you to stay’.

“I want to play for this club. I knew that I wanted to be here no matter what happened. I’m very excited now and I am already looking forward to the challenges ahead next year.

“Seeing the likes of Owen Buckley and Joe Lyons make their debuts and playing recently, it’s massive for the club to have so many talented youngsters coming through the ranks and showing what they’re about.

“For me, playing regularly is something that I want to be doing come next season. I want to get the chance to show the fans and the club what I’m about and show pride to pull on the black and white jersey.”

Phil Finney, Head of Youth at Widnes Vikings, says: “Lloyd is a player who has been an integral part of our Academy programme for the past five years, and has been with the first-team squad on a full-time basis for this past season.

“Lloyd has a very good knowledge of the game, has good technical ability and tactical awareness, making him a very versatile player. In his time with the club, Lloyd has played in the full back, centre, stand off, hooker and wing position, making him a very valuable player to the club.

“If Lloyd continues to work hard on all aspects of his game, we believe he can make a substantial contribution to the club in the coming years.”
