When Wakefield Trinity slotted a drop goal over with three minutes left, it looked as though the U19s would narrowly lose their last game of the season. However, the never say die spirit of this squad was shown when Josh Wilde crossed in the final minute ensured they ended the season on a high with a 22-17 victory.

The first half saw Trinity start strongly and impressive centre Jack Croft forced his way over for an early score, which Tom Ashen converted.

Widnes were getting into good positions to attack the Trinity line, but frustratingly kept losing possession. It took them 30 minutes to eventually make their passes stick and a good inside ball saw Josh Wilde score. The remainder of the half petered out with both sides guilty of errors and Trinity went into the break with a two point lead.

Half-Time: Wakefield Trinity U19s 6-4 Widnes Vikings U19s

Wakefield started the second half as they had the first and it was centre Connor Bailey who got their next try.  Ashen added the extras and at 12-4 the home side looked confident and in control.

They continued to pummel the Widnes line, but sterling defence kept them out and on the back of this, they went upfield and scored. A lovely pass from Lloyd Roby put Olly Brookes in at the corner and Sam Freeman landed the touchline conversion with the help of the upright.

Wakefield scored again as Croft squeezed in at the corner, and with 18 minutes left, they held a 16-10 lead.

Widnes then seemed to step up a gear and some tremendous defence knocked Trinity out of their stride. They put the home side under pressure and Keanan Brand was on the end of an excellent pass to cross the line and score under the sticks to make the conversion easier for Sam Freeman. At 16-16, the game was set for a grandstand finish.

A Lloyd Roby drop goal attempt went wide, but with just three minutes remaining Thomas Schofield made it 17-16 and it looked like victory for Trinity.

But Widnes would not lie down and they piled forward. Sam Freeman somehow offloaded before ending up in touch and the ball went from right to left where it reached Josh Wilde who stretched over to score his second. Freeman added the extras, and a few nervy moments later the referee blew his whistle to signal not only the end of the match but the end of a great season for the Club's U19s.
