Widnes Vikings are inviting businesses to attend a ‘Business, Sport and Wellbeing Networking’ event at the Halton Stadium to raise funds for the Club’s Disability Rugby League Teams.

Forming part of the club’s successful ‘Business Ambassador Network’ programme, the event will be sponsored by Club partners C&C Insurance Brokers Limited.

The event will take place on Wednesday 3rd October in the Halton Suite between 9am and 3pm, fusing the world of business with rugby league through a number of profile speakers who will share their experiences with attendees.

The Headline speaker for the event will be Rugby League and Rugby Union legend Jason Robinson OBE, who made over 300 appearances for Wigan Warriors. He won his first Challenge Cup aged just 19 and was part of the Warriors side that won the first ever Super League Grand Final back in 1998, scoring their only try in a 10-4 victory.

Robinson went on to reach similar heights when switching codes, playing an integral part in England’s Rugby Union World Cup triumph in 2003 as he scored their only try in the 20-17 win over Australia in the final.

He will be re-living some of his highlights from a stellar career across both codes, whilst discussing his successful progression from athlete to businessman.

Super League CEO, Robert Elstone, will also be sharing his thoughts on brand identity as he reflects on his time as Everton Football Club’s CEO and talks about his current role within rugby league.

Elstone was involved in the creation of both the Scottish Premier League and Super League before holding a role as BskyB’s Director of Football Business Affairs in 2000, where he worked closely with a number of Premier League clubs.

With a decorated background in business and sport, he will provide brilliant insight to those in attendance as he draws on his experience in a variety of roles.

Danny Sculthorpe will round off the event, a former rugby league player who represented the Vikings, Wigan, Castleford, and Bradford amongst others.

He was forced to retire early due to injury and after battling with depression he became a trustee with mental health charity State of Mind.

Sculthorpe now tells his inspiring story across the country through his new-found career and will be discussing the importance of mental resilience in the workplace at the event.

The afternoon will comprise of business to business networking opportunities, with all companies in attendance being provided with a stall space within the Suite.

The Club recently launched both Physical Disability and Learning Disability teams as they took part in a historic friendly against St Helens and competed in the Grand Day Out tournament in Blackpool, and are looking to continue the growth of both programmes.

A one course carvery lunch will also be served with every business that attends receiving two places at the event and a stall within the suite for just £150 + VAT. All money raised will go towards supporting the Vikings PDRL and LDRL teams.

Commercial and Community Director, Richard Munson, said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for businesses to gain key insights into a number of different practises whilst also being provided with a unique networking platform.

“It will also be a great chance to show support for our Physical Disability and Learning Disability teams which have been a huge success since their launch, and we’re hoping through this event we can take our delivery of the programmes to the next level.”
