Widnes Vikings were beaten 42-22 by Toulouse Olympique at the Stade Ernest-Argeles on Saturday evening in the Super 8s, The Qualifiers.

The home side posted the first points of the game as Mark Kheirallah opened the scoring. The full back hit a short inside ball from Ford and was able to evade the tacklers to score. Kheirallah converted his own try.

The Vikings responded well to going behind and Krisnan Inu reduced the deficit shortly afterwards. Lloyd White darted out from dummy half and gave a short ball to the Vikings centre on the right edge and he was able to muscle over. Inu missed the following conversion.

Francis Cummins’ side took the lead ten minutes later as Harrison Hansen scored in the left hand corner. Tom Olbison offloaded superbly in the tackle to White, who then fed Hansen to evade three tacklers to score. Krisnan Inu converted the try from the touchline.

The French outfit re-took the lead on the 28 minute mark as Mark Kheirallah grabbed his second try of the evening. Johnathan Ford put in a nice chip kick over the top of the Vikings defence, and the Toulouse full back was the first to the ball to collect and dive over under the sticks. Kheirallah converted his own try.

Toulouse scored one more before the break as Chris Centrone ran the length of the field to stretch the lead. With the Vikings attacking with intent on the Toulouse line, Centrone stole the ball 1-on-1 from Inu, and he was able to beat the chasing defence of Chris Houston to touch down. Kheirallah converted the try to give the home side an eight point lead at the break.

The Vikings struck early in the second half as Weller Hauraki crossed the whitewash for a try. The forward was given a nice, inside pass by Tom Gilmore and Weller beat two tacklers to twist and score. Krisnan Inu converted the try.

Toulouse restored their 8-point lead on the 58 minute mark as Johnathan Ford touched down. Ford superbly claimed a high bomb out the air and touched down under the sticks. Mark Kheirallah converted the try.

Chris Centrone grabbed his second of the afternoon as he finished a nice sweeping move to Toulouse’s left edge and got over in the corner. Mark Kheirallah converted the try.

Sylvain Houles’ side scored their third try of the second half as Stan Robin touched down with ten minutes remaining. Marcon broke down the Toulouse right edge, kicked through, and Robin was there to pick up to score. Kheirallah converted the try once more.

Lloyd White grabbed his first try since his return from injury with eight minutes to go, as he collected an offload from Chris Houston to get over the try line. Krisnan Inu converted the try.

The home side had the last say of the afternoon, however, as William Barthau dummied out of dummy half and dover over from close range. Mark Kheirallah converted to hand the home side a vital two points in The Qualifiers.
