Widnes Vikings Assistant Coach, Mick Cassidy, will be signing off a decade of service with the club at the end of the 2018 season. Cassidy, who has represented the Vikings as both a player and a coach, says that he is determined to make his final months ones that count.

Mick will be leaving the Vikings at the end of the season to take on the Head of Youth Performance position at Wigan Warriors. The move will conclude a ten-year association with the Vikings for Mick, who first joined the club as a player in 2005.

Mick played for Widnes Vikings until 2007. After finishing his playing career at Barrow Raiders, he re-joined the club in 2009 as Assistant Coach, a position he has held until the present day.

Cassidy will take up his new role at the end of the 2018 season, but until then remains fully focussed on his position at the Vikings.

Mick Cassidy says: “I’ve been connected with Widnes Vikings since 2005, so this club means an awful lot to me. I also know what the club means to its supporters and local community too. I’m determined to sign my time at Widnes Vikings off on a high, by supporting a successful Super 8s, The Qualifiers, campaign.

"I would like to thank Widnes Vikings for giving me the opportunity to build a career in coaching. I have learned a lot at the club and worked with some brilliant people, so I am very grateful for the experience that I have gained here.

“Having been in this role for some time, I feel ready to change the focus of my coaching career and take on a new challenge.

“Although I am announcing this move now, I would like to reiterate my absolute commitment to the Vikings until the end of the season. I’m looking to leave the club on a high, by helping to ensure that Widnes Vikings retain their place in Super League for 2019.”

James Rule, CEO of Widnes Vikings, says: “Mick has spent many years with Widnes Vikings and has been an integral part of the club’s evolution and growth.

“Throughout that time, Mick has always consistently delivered his role with energy, commitment and passion. I would like to take this opportunity to thank Mick for everything he has done for our club and to wish him, and his family, all the best for the next chapter of his career.”
