Ince celebrates NHS 70th anniversary

4th July 2018

Widnes Vikings first teamer Ryan Ince visited Halton Hospital on Wednesday afternoon, to join in with the 70th anniversary celebrations of the NHS and help raise funds for Warrington Hospital’s Children’s Ward.

Ince was a special guest at the 1940’s inspired tea-party which took place in the hospitals’ George Lloyd restaurant with staff, volunteers and patients in attendance.

He also toured the hospital, meeting patients and helping to raise funds for the Warrington and Halton Hospitals’ Charity and their Children’s Ward Appeal.

The winger stopped by Runcorn Urgent Care Centre, a huge focus of the Beat The Scrum campaign, where he met the brilliant staff and thanked them for their tireless hard-work.

The Beat The Scrum campaign aims to encourage people to pass A&E for situations that aren’t serious or life threatening, by instead choosing walk-in centres, urgent care services, or pharmacies. Find out how you can choose the right NHS options at

Ince says: “It was an honour to be invited to be a part of the NHS’ 70th anniversary celebrations at Halton Hospital.

“I really enjoyed my afternoon there and it was great to meet the staff, volunteers and patients during my visit. It’s always impressive to see how much hard work goes into making the NHS the great organisation that it is.

“As a team we are all proud to back Beat The Scrum. I was grateful to have the opportunity to meet the team that deliver a fantastic service at the Runcorn Urgent Care Centre, and to hear such great feedback on the campaign.”

A special fundraising collection will take place at Widnes Vikings’ Super League fixture with Castleford Tigers on Sunday 29th July, raising money for an outdoor play area for children being cared for at Warrington Hospital.
