Widnes have had many memorable meetings against this week’s opponents, Salford Red Devils.

The Vikings won the reverse fixture earlier in the season, claiming a 24-16 win at the Halton Stadium in front of the sky cameras, and will want to repeat the success.

Ahead of Thursday's clash against the Red Devils, here’s a look at some of our most recent clashes from recent years....

Widnes Vikings 24-16 Salford Red Devils - Thursday March 22, 2018

We start with our most recent fixture against the Red Devils, which saw the Vikings edge a narrow game thanks to late tries from Greg Burke and Aaron Heremaia.

Chris Dean scored Widnes’ only first half score as he stretched out from close range, but the home side saw themselves facing a 10-6 deficit at the break thanks to Craig Kopczak’s try and four points from the boot of Robert Lui.

Despite Krisnan Inu touching down, the Red Devils had a 16-12 advantage going into the last ten minutes, courtesy of a try from new Vikings recruit Weller Hauraki.

Nevertheless, Heremaia fed Burke to give the hosts a narrow lead in the closing stages, before the New Zealand-born hooker grabbed one of his own to wrap things up.

Widnes Vikings 21-20 Salford Red Devils - Sunday July 26, 2015

Danny Craven’s last-gasp drop goal earned a remarkable comeback victory for the Vikings in the final game of the 2015 regular season.

With both sides already confirmed for the middle 8’s Qualifiers, this game was all about building form going into a crunch period of fixtures. It was the visitors who started the better of the two sides and led 12-6 at the break as Chris Clarkson’s try was cancelled out by Niall Evalds and Corey Paterson efforts.

Scott Taylor and Paddy Flynn exchanged tries early in the second period, meaning that Salford held a 10-point lead going into the final quarter.

Remarkably though, Stefan Marsh and Aaron Heremaia touched down to even matters going into the last 10 minutes, before Craven took matters into his own hands in the final minutes and steal the points for the Vikings.

Salford Red Devils 16-38 Widnes Vikings - Saturday May 30, 2015

Widnes kicked off the first ever Magic Weekend held at St James’ Park in emphatic style, defeating 12-man Salford 38-16.

Despite going behind early on, The Vikings rallied and deservedly led thanks to Patrick Ah Van’s brace and further scores from Kevin Brown and Danny Galea.

Things got worse for the Red Devils on the stroke of half-time as Darrell Griffin was sent off for a high tackle.

Brown scored his second and third after the break, either side of consolation scores for Greg Johnson and Ben Jones-Bishop, before Stefan Marsh concluded the scoring late on to wrap up a comprehensive victory.
