Widnes scored four second half tries to overcome a 10 point deficit and record back to back wins in Yorkshire with a 30-24 victory.

The match began with the City of Hull side pinning back Widnes deep in their own half, but on the back of a penalty the visitors struck. From the play the ball, Danny Walker found Sam Freeman and the full back made no mistake from 20 metres.

The COH soon responded when Conner Wynne showed good pace to score in the corner and Charlie Patterson Lund converted. He converted their next try when Lochlan Fitzgerald sliced through the Widnes defence, and after 15 minutes, three penalties had led to three tries and a 12-4 scoreline.

Both teams should have scored again before Brad Calland reduced the arrears with a try wide out on the right.

Owen Farnworth was denied a try as he knocked on over the line, but with only a minute to the break, Widnes conceded a penalty deep in their own half and Robert Downs scooted over. The conversion gave COH an 18-8 advantage at half time.

Widnes opened the second half strongly and Pat McCarroll barged his way over from close range, and with Sam Freeman converting, they were back in the game.

Widnes remained in the ascendency, and when the COH lost the ball in their own half, Jayden Hatton swooped to kick, collect and touch down. Freeman hit the post with his conversion attempt but at 18-18 it was anyone's game.

With 15 minutes left, Widnes lost possession in their own half and COH regained the lead when prop Jack Brown scored close to the posts and the try was again converted.

Five minutes later Widnes were within two points after last tackle passing saw the ball end up with Owen Buckley, and the winger produced another of his audacious finishes. Sam Freeman landed the kick from the touchline and it looked like the game would finish at 24-24.

Hull winger Wynne made a 50 metre break to set themselves up for a drop goal but they spurned the opportunity and Widnes took full advantage.

Another penalty for the Vikings gave them one last chance, and they didn't waste it as Sam Walters dived over to the delight of his teammates. Freeman added the extras and seconds later the final whistle went to signal a fine win for the young Vikings.
