Widnes Vikings take on Leeds Rhinos in the Sixth Round of the Challenge Cup on Friday 11th May, kick-off 8:00pm.

To whet the appetite for the clash, we have taken a look at some potential clashes that could occur at the Halton Stadium on Friday night...

Ryan Ince vs Ash Handley

Friday’s tie against the Rhinos will be a great chance for Ryan Ince to show his finishing credentials against Leeds’ top try scorer of 2018.

Ince is in a rich vein of form, crossing three times in his last two outings for the Vikings, including a spectacular finish in the corner against Huddersfield last Friday.

He has crossed four times already in 2018, only bettered in the Vikings camp by Krisnan Inu, and has taken advantage of the absence of Patrick Ah Van and Stefan Marsh to cement his spot in the starting 13.

The 21-year old will have to be at his very best when he stands toe-to-toe with Handley, who has a combined 11 tries and assists this campaign and has helped the Rhinos up to sixth in the Betfred Super League table.

Tom Olbison vs Carl Ablett

The Vikings will need to win the battle of the ruck if they are to overcome Brian McDermott’s side for the second time this year, placing great responsibility on the likes of Tom Olbison.

The 27-year old has been a standout player for Widnes this season and has made 384 tackles thus far, more than any of his team-mates.

Coming up against Ablett, a similarly robust operator with a keen eye for a tackle, will be a huge challenge, but one that the Vikings' number 16 will relish going into this Challenge Cup sixth round tie.

Tom Gilmore vs Richie Myler

Tom Gilmore has been an important creative influence for the Vikings this year, laying on seven tries for team-mates over the course of the season.

If the Vikings are to progress, Gilmore’s creative juices will need to be flowing for the full 80 minutes, considering that his opposite number has 19 try assists in 2018 - the most of anyone in Super League.

The Widnes-born scrum half has had a solid start to life at the Rhinos and will be confident going into this evening’s clash- 24-year old Gilmore will need to give it his all to out-create the former England international and help Widnes progress to the next round.
