With their best performance of the season, the Academy produced a dominant display to beat Castleford 50-14, scoring nine tries to reach a half century of points.

The Vikings got off to a great start when the ball was moved to the left wing and Owen Buckley finished with aplomb in the corner.

Widnes continued to plough forward and a lovely Owen Farnworth offload found Danny Walker who went under the posts only to drop the ball as he attempted to touch down. From the 20 metre tap, Pat McCarroll was found guilty of a professional foul and during his 10 minutes in the sin bin, Castleford scored two tries.

Firstly, Harry Williams finished off a good move and converted his own try. Then winger Jacob Doyle evaded his marker to score to make it 10-4 to the home side. Widnes went close on a couple of occasions, and when McCarroll returned, he almost scored with his first touch of the ball.

They were soon level when Lewis Else scored, and after Sam Freeman converted, they were never behind again.

A flowing movement saw Freeman cut inside for a fine try and then Sam Walters, who was impressive throughout, scored his side's fourth try. Freeman converted both tries and Widnes went into the break with a 10-22 lead.

From the restart, Widnes knocked on and Castleford immediately reduced the arrears when winger Lewis Carr scored.

Widnes weathered the storm as the Tigers looked to score again, but when they got in the Tigers half, the away side came away with more points.

This time it was Ben Davies who spotted a gap to dive over from close range and Freeman, again, added the extras.

Castleford responded and had a try denied due to a forward pass, but it was Widnes who scored again as the influential Danny Walker created a try for Jordan Brown to make it 14-32.

Castleford kicked off and were unable to stop Widnes scoring again as Walters grabbed another.

Walters then turned provider as his excellent offload close to the line put Jayden Hatton over. With seconds remaining, James Rutledge scored the final try and Freeman's conversion brought up the fifty points, which included a personal haul of  18 points for the full back.
