Squad News

Denis Betts makes three changes to the side that took on Wigan Warriors last week, with Charly Runciman, Aaron Heremaia and Wellington Albert coming into the side in place of Owen Farnworth, Ted Chapelhow and Ed Chamberlain.

The Vikings will still be without Krisnan Inu, Gil Dudson, Chris Dean, Chris Houston, Joe Mellor and Stefan Marsh due to injury.

Widnes: Ah Van, Burke, Cahill, J.Chapelhow, Craven, Gerrard, Gilmore, Hanbury, Heremaia, Ince, Johnstone, Keinhorst, Leuluai, Olbison, Runciman, Wellington, White, Whitley, Wilde.

Huddersfield Giants have also made three changes to the side that were beaten by Warrington Wolves last week, with Jared Simpson, Aaron Murphy and Oliver Roberts replaced by debutants Olly Russell and Jake Wardle, whilst Matty English returns to the side.

Huddersfield: Mamo, Turner, Gaskell, Ikahihifo, Leeming, Lawrence, Hinchcliffe, Rankin, Ta’ai, Clough, Smith, O’Brien, Mellor, McIntosh, Dickinson, Wood, English, Wardle, Russell.

At the time of writing, Denis Betts’ side head into the game in 9th place in Super League, after recent defeats in the League to Wigan Warriors and Hull FC coming on either side of the comprehensive Challenge Cup victory over Coventry Bears. This huge game comes at a crucial time for the Vikings, who are looking to ensure that they keep up with the race for the top eight, and victory at the John Smith’s Stadium will be a step towards that.

Huddersfield Giants and their interim head coach Chris Thorman head into this game as the bottom side in the Betfred Super League, with five points from their opening 13 games. The Giants have lost their previous five games, with their last victory coming against the Vikings back in March, and will be looking to get back to winning ways on home soil on Friday night. With Simon Woolford being announced as the Club's new Head Coach earlier in the week, the Giants players will be looking to impress their new coach on Friday night, also.
