Vikings Bring Businesses Together

13th April 2018

Members of the Widnes Vikings business community were joined by first team players James Chapelhow, Brad Walker, and Wellington and Stanton Albert this week for a networking event with a difference.

The four Super League stars attended the Vikings Business Ambassador Network, which is supported by Uniqwin Security. The network provides a unique platform for local business leaders to network together, identify commercial opportunities and share best practice.

This Ambassador event gave local businesses the opportunity to showcase their products and services, with marketplace stands and presentations. With Ambassador members making a vital contribution to the Vikings on-field and off-field success, they also enjoyed exclusive insight into recent club projects.

Since being established in 2015, members of the Business Ambassador Network have invested over £20,000 in the club’s community programmes. To celebrate this, Ambassadors were given a special update on the life-changing impact of the Vikings ‘Offload’ programme, which promotes mental resilience for men, by its project lead, Sean Mellor.

This was followed by a special presentation by Roger Harrison MBE on the Development Squad, a unique programme that offers all local school boys in Years 6 – 7 the opportunity to enjoy quality coaching and learn about Rugby League with the support of a team of skilled volunteers. For some, this represents an exciting first step on the pathway to becoming a Widnes Vikings player.

With Widnes Vikings’ sponsors making a significant contribution to the on-field success of the club, guests also participated in an exclusive Q&A with the four Vikings stars. Brad Walker and James Chapelhow discussed their journey from the Vikings youth system to the Super League, whilst the Albert brothers passionately described the warm welcome they have been given to life in Halton.

Richard Munson, Commercial and Community Director, says, ‘The support Business Ambassador Network members is absolutely crucial to the Vikings work in the community. We are always looking at ways of enhancing the offer and based on feedback from a number of businesses, we were pleased to enable members to come together and showcase their services. The support of businesses is crucial to our work, both on and off the field, and we were delighted to assist the businesses that give so much to this club.”
