Widnes Vikings are proud to announce a new partnership with the North-West charity Youth Fed, to deliver the ‘4REAL’ programme within Halton.

‘4REAL’ aims to support activities that help young people to develop skills, improve their wellbeing and engage with their communities. It is supported by the Youth Investment Fund, a £40 million joint investment by the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport, and the Big Lottery Fund for open access youth provision in disadvantaged areas.

As part of the new partnership, members of the award-winning Widnes Vikings community team will work with local secondary schools to support local young people aged 11-15 to learn about mental resilience, coping strategies, anger management and leadership skills. These efforts are supported by a programme of physical activity and sports opportunities.

Richard Munson, Commercial and Community Director of Widnes Vikings, says: “We are pleased to be working in partnership with Youth Fed on the 4REAL programme. We have seen the importance of delivering mental resilience programmes through our ‘Offload’ scheme, which has engaged almost 300 men over the last year, and we are looking forward to taking the learnings of this into our 4REAL delivery with young people. We’ve set ourselves ambitious targets, but it is vital we educate as many young people as possible around mental health.

Sharon Vaughan, Project Coordinator for the 4REAL Scheme, says, ‘Youth Fed are delighted to be partnering with Widnes Vikingswith the delivery of the Youth Investment Fund. We are excited to hear about the positive impact that the 4REAL programme has on the young people through the Mental Wellbeing and physical fitness sessions and look forward to sharing their success’.
