Widnes Vikings have announced their 19-man squad for Friday’s huge derby against Warrington Wolves (7.35pm kick off), with just two changes to the side that performed so impressively against 2017 League Leaders, Castleford Tigers.

Both Aaron Heremaia and Danny Craven have been declared fit to play and have been called up to the squad, bolstering the Vikings attacking threat. Charly Runciman has unfortunately been ruled out after sustaining an injury to the throat in his last appearance, whist Wellington Albert has been rested.

Denis Betts, Head Coach of Widnes Vikings, says: “Whilst we’ve made some changes to the team, I’m pleased overall with the squad selection. To be able to bring both Aaron and Danny back into the team is a real positive, and the spine of the team that has performed well in the past two fixtures is there.

Unfortunately, Charly has been ruled out for the next few weeks. Having not missed a single game of last year, he’s obviously very disappointed, but his injury has created an opportunity for other players to now step up and prove themselves.

Everyone is fighting it out for their place in the team and the competition is driving the team forward. The likes of Danny Walker and Olly Ashall-Bott relished the chance that they had last weekend and are determined to keep their place for the big game. We’re not looking beyond this game, but Alex Gerrard, Ryan Ince and Lloyd White are very close to returning soon, so we have an interesting few weeks ahead.

We’re preparing for a tough battle on the field on Friday. Warrington will be coming here thinking it’s their chance to get back to winning ways. They need points, have a strong squad and are smarting. The mood in our camp is very much, “come on, bring it on!”. We’re excited and ready for the challenge, so supporters can expect a great game.”
