Widnes Vikings will be hosting a special Business Ambassador Network event in November, helping business leaders to understand the latest innovations in digital planning and cyber security, as well as providing behind the scenes insight from the Club.

On 28th November, from 4.00-7.00pm, the Vikings will bring together local accountancy firm Mitchell Charlesworth and Barclays, as well as Co-Captains, Chris Houston and Joe Mellor, for a unique event at the Halton Stadium. Businesses have the opportunity to register for limited free passes for this event, to enjoy a complimentary one-off introduction to the exclusive Network.

Mitchell Charlesworth will deliver a special presentation on Making Tax Digital, the government’s forthcoming taxation change that will require businesses with a turnover above the £85,000 VAT threshold to move their tax accounting online. The significant change will see quarterly reports replacing the annual tax return.

Barclays will also share the expert knowledge of their Digital Engagement team on how to protect against digital attacks. According to government statistics, around 75% of small to medium sized businesses suffer a malicious security breach. Their presentation will provide practical and effective advice on how to guard against corporate cybercrime.

As always, Ambassador Network members will also receive exclusive access to the Club. Richard Munson, Community and Commercial Director at Widnes Vikings, will deliver a special update on the new commercial opportunities with the Vikings for 2018. He will be joined by the Vikings’ Co-Captains, Joe Mellor and Chris Houston, who will provide an exclusive preview of the 2018 Betfred Super League Season.

The Widnes Vikings Ambassador Network, in association with Uniqwin, brings together an incredible mix of local, regional and national businesses. It provides a unique opportunity for local business leaders to network together, identify commercial opportunities and share best practice at their special quarterly events.

Richard Munson says, “We are delighted to be working in partnership with Barclays and Mitchell Charlesworth on what will be one of the Vikings’ most exciting Business Ambassador Networks events yet.  At every Ambassador Network session, we strive to offer members the chance to discover best practice in business, as well as special commercial, community and partnership opportunities. This event will surely offer something for every attendee.”

He adds, “I’m also looking forward to sharing some of the new innovative opportunities for businesses to raise their profile and gain new commercial opportunities through partnering with Widnes Vikings. I am delighted to be joined by Chris and Joe, who will share their on-field goals for the 2018 Betfred Super League season.”

Lorraine Whittaker, partner at Mitchell Charlesworth, says: “Making Tax Digital will require business owners to make major changes to the way they deal with their finances so now is the time to review current processes and put in place a digital solution that will pave the way for a smooth transition. An increasing number of our clients are asking us about which cloud-based software to choose and we can provide this information alongside training, business advice and follow up support. This seminar offers a great opportunity to find out more information on the topic and the steps business owners should be taking to prepare.”

Gareth Godard, digital engagement manager at Barclays, says: “Online security doesn’t have to be complicated or expensive. Often it’s the free and simple guidance like keeping software and operating systems up to date which can make a real difference. This informative event will give you lots of useful hints and tips from secure passwords to how to use social media safely.  We’ll also give you some examples of how businesses in the North West have been affected. So if you want to learn how to stay secure online, come along!”
