Previous Meetings

The Vikings hold the edge over their opponents on Sunday afternoon, and haven’t tasted defeat to the Yorkshire side since a 26-24 defeat in 2011 in the Championship, a run of five games including league, Cup and friendly fixtures.

The last competitive meeting between the sides was a 2016 Challenge Cup tie, in which the Vikings ran out 28-18 winners at The Shay. Denis Betts may also look to the 30-0 victory over Halifax in the 2017 pre-season, with tries from the likes of Danny Craven and Patrick Ah Van sealed a comfortable victory.

Players In Common

Steve Tyrer - Former Viking Steve Tyrer made his name at St Helens as a try-scoring centre with an ability to kick goals. Following a short loan spell at the Vikings in 2008, he returned permanently to the Club in 2011, posting over 280 points as the Club returned to Super League. Tyrer was to leave the Halton Stadium in the off-season to Halifax and has been a mainstay in the side since. Scoring over 1000 points for the Club, the 28-year old will cause a threat the Vikings will need to be aware of.

Shane Grady - Widnes-born Shane signed for Widnes Vikings from local amateur club West Bank Bears, and made his debut for his hometown team in 2008, playing 14 games and scoring four tries. Grady would go on to make 75 appearances for the Vikings, scoring 24 tries, and helped the Club return to Super League for the 2012 season. Grady had spells with London Broncos and Hemel Stags before moving on to Dewsbury Rams in 2014. Shane spent two years with the Rams before putting pen-to-paper with Halifax for the 2017 season, and has impressed during his short time at the club, making 22 appearances and scoring four tries.
