‘Tackle IT!' Textline

The RFL, in conjunction with Super League and Championship clubs, have launched a new Textline service which is part of the new Tackle IT! programme, for Rugby League spectators to report any incidents during match days.

As a sport we recognise that it can sometimes be intimidating for spectators to directly challenge unacceptable behaviour and language themselves or identify those individuals to stewards. Therefore, the RFL and every individual club have been allocated their own unique Textline reporting number.

The Tackle IT! Textline service is the first such programme to be implemented across an entire professional sport. It will provide supporters at all RFL centrally organised games, Super League, Championship and Championship One matches with another means of reporting any unacceptable behaviour or language to ensure Rugby League remains a family friendly sport.

"A Textline service has been used by several Engage Super League clubs over the past few seasons with great success," said RFL Equality and Diversity Manager, Sarah Williams.

"It provides clubs with an additional reporting opportunity to assists stewards and Ground Safety Officers monitor the behaviour of spectators and deal with any incidents more effectively.

"If there is any worrying or offensive behaviour, our spectators can send a text message to the relevant phone number if they feel unable to contact the nearest steward. Stewards are an invaluable resource to Rugby League and their role in maintaining our family friendly environment is vital to our sport and the Textline service is there to support their essential role.

"Not only will it provide more efficient support for incidents on match days, but the new reporting forms for Ground Safety Officers will allow both the clubs and RFL to review the range and frequency of incidents over a season, identify any trends and therefore allocate resources and support more effectively.

"Rugby League prides itself on being a passionate, inclusive, uncompromising, family sport and we hope to reinforce these values by reacting more effectively to unacceptable situations in stadiums and hopefully reducing the number of occurrences.

"We believe the match day Textline will help us maintain the passionate atmosphere of a game whilst ensuring that it is family friendly and enjoyable match day experience.

"All clubs will display their Textline number around the stadium which will be visible to spectators on match days.
