Full Time Report

Greg Eden scored a hat-trick of tries as Castleford Tigers beat Widnes Vikings 52-24 to move up to third in Betfred Super League.

Four sensational first-half scores in the space of seven minutes from Daryl Powell’s side knocked the stuffing out of the Vikings, who led 12-4 after Pat Ah Van and Rhys Hanbury crossed.

Quentin Laulu-Togagae touched down twice while Jake Trueman, Oliver Holmes, Adam Milner and Mitch Clark also went over for the Tigers.

Jamie Ellis kicked eight conversions, racking up his 1,000th career point in the process.

Harrison Hansen scored on his Vikings debut following his move from Leigh Centurions and Ah Van went over for a second near the end.

Widnes interim boss Francis Cummins said: “There was a 10-minute spell where we didn’t touch the ball.

"We saw in the first half that when we started to complete, and we didn’t do that against Leeds, that we can build pressure.

“We stuck to what we practised but then we gave an interception try away and there was a bounce pass that they scored from and that stuff went in their favour.”

Castleford coach Daryl Powell said: “I don’t think we started great or finished great but in between there was outstanding rugby league played.

“We conceded a few soft tries, in particularly the first one but in the second half when we applied ourselves – we put the game to bed.

“We’ll have a bit of a breather now and then into the Super 8s. We have four days off now. The players deserve a few beers tonight. We will chill out and then get back on it.”
