Full Time Report

Josh Charnley marked his Warrington Wolves debut with two tries to earn a 32-18 Betfred Super League victory over derby rivals Widnes Vikings at the Halliwell Jones stadium.

Charnley, who returned to the 13-man code from rugby union club Sale last week, scored twice in the second half as Warrington recovered from an early 10-0 deficit to record their 10th straight win over the Vikings.

Toby King grabbed a first-half brace as Sitaleki Akauola scored his first try for the Wolves and Ben Westood touched down, with Bryson Goodwin landing four goals.

Winger Ed Chamberlain claimed two first-half tries and Rhys Hanbury also touched down for Widnes, with Krisnan Inu kicking two goals and Tom Gilmore adding another conversion.

On Charnley's immediate impact, Warrington coach Steve Price said: “They were two great finishes for Josh, two outstanding tries and not many wingers would have scored them. He’s a special player and that’s why we have brought him to the club.

“He got the service he requires in the second half, there were a couple of opportunities in the first half, but it’s a new centre and wing combination so it will take time."

Widnes coach Denis Betts said: “We never gave ourselves a chance, the starts to both halves were really painful for us, especially the second half when we conceded a try.

“It was a battle of energy and we lost it because of how much work we had to put in during the first half."
