Full Time Report

Wakefield Trinity scored eight tries as they secured an impressive 44-22 victory over Widnes Vikings at the Mobile Rocket Stadium.

Bill Tupou and Reece Lyne both scored a brace of tries for the hosts, with James Batchelor kicking five goals to add to his 57th-minute touchdown.

Tom Johnstone, Ben Jones-Bishop and Tinirau Arona also crossed for tries.

The Vikings found themselves 22-0 down at half-time but battled back with scores from Stefan Marsh, Danny Walker, Alex Gerrard and Ryan Ince, with Tom Gilmore kicking the rest of their points.

Widnes' comeback meant Wakefield ended the match disappointed despite a comfortable win.

"The players were deflated at the end of the game," Chris Chester said.

"We expect better standards than we had in the second half. Having said that the first 40 minutes were the best defensively we've seen though it flipped on its head in the second half.

"However, we got the two points which is what we always wanted. It puts us in a really good position."

Widnes interim coach Franny Cummins said: "The pleasing things from this game is we showed more strike than we have had. But we are still finding these hard ways to play the game."
