Born in Mendi, Southern Highlands, Papua New Guinea, Stanton has previously  played for local teams Giluwe Tigers and Hela Wigman in domestic rugby league, as well as winning the 2017 Intrust Super Cup Premiership with PNG Hunters. Known locally as 'Purii Naik' (Strong Man) he also represented Penrith Panthers in the Queensland Cup. In common with his brother Wellington he made a try-scoring debut for Papua New Guinea - against Fiji in the Melanesian Cup in 2015 - which he names as his career highlight to date. Further recognition came for the powerful forward with 3 appearances for PNG in the 2017 World Cup. Committed to being consistent and always giving his best his ambition is to claim a regular place in the Widnes first team. A former volleyball player Stanton enjoys watching films in his spare time.
