He gained selection for Wales Under 18's before linking up with Wigan Warriors in 2012, making his debut in the Good Friday win against St Helens. Before adding more size and power to the Vikings' pack the hard running Prop had also turned out for South Wales Scorpions and Halifax on Dual Registration terms. His most successful season to date came in 2013, when he won the 'double' of the Challenge Cup and Super League Grand Final with Wigan, in addition to playing a major part for Wales in the 2013 World Cup. Passing 100 senior club appearances in 2015 'Gilberto' made his 100th Super League appearance in 2017. Away from rugby Gil is a big fan of the Green Bay Packers and enjoys walking his dog.
