Biography

Born in St Helens Matt played his junior rugby with Bold Miners before signing Scholarship forms with his home town club. The former HaydockHigh School pupil moved on to Widnes at the age of 16 where he became a regular in the Under 19's. His hard-working style, good handling skills and tactical awareness, saw him earn promotion to the first team squad for 2014 and eventually make his senior bow for the Vikings in the 30-10 victory against Warrington in 2015, going on to make 18 appearances and score three tries. His strong and consistent displays earned him an extended deal until 2018 and nomination for the Albert Goldthorpe Rookie of the Year in 2015, while an outstanding 2016 brought Matt both the Stronghold and Players' Player of the Year Awards, in addition to nomination for Super League Young Player of the Year. Away from the game Matt likes to relax and watch Manchester United when time permits.
